Club History

Tewkesbury's football club has been winning honours both locally and county wide for over one hundred years with the likes of Cheltenham Town and Evesham United beaten along the way. The club in its current form was re-established in 1985.

A Short History...

Tewkesbury as a town has had a football club for over one hundred years, winning many honours both locally and county wide with the likes of Cheltenham Town and Evesham United beaten on the way. Tewkesbury Town have been established in its current form for 25 years and have played in the Evesham, Cheltenham and Worcester leagues.

In 1985 Town entered the Evesham Sunday league in division 5 and in only their second season win division 5 and were runners up in the Bluck Cup. In 1987/88 Town win promotion to division 3 after finishing runners up. In 1988 Town win the Evesham Subsidiary Cup and come runners up in the county cup.

The next season Town win division 3 to become 1989/90 champions.

1991/92 brought more success as Town win G.F.A Intermediate county cup and gain promotion as runners up. This is the only time Town to date has tasted success in the county cup and this will go down as one of the finest teams Town has ever produced in its history.

In 1992/93 Town once again wins the Evesham Subsidiary cup. And in 1995/96 win promotion to division 5 and the Sunday side finish runners up in division 1 and claim the Evesham subsidiary cup and the Evesham hospital junior cup. Ian Butler also takes plaudits this season as the Evesham league names him Secretary of the year.

Town keep going from strength to strength the Sunday side finish runners up again and win the junior cup as they did the season prior. The Saturday side continue their upsurge in the league as they finish runners up in division 5.

1997/98 brings more trophys as the Sunday side bring home the junior cup for the third season running and the Saturday side become champions of division 4. 1998 sees Town start a reserve side which enters the Cheltenham league at division 5 and will see them finish runners up in their first season. The Sunday side make it four out of four by also bringing home the junior cup in 1998/99.

The Saturday side win Division 2 in 1999/00 but the reserve side disbands, but all is not lost as a reserve side is created on a Sunday. The turn of the Millennium is a hard time for Town as the good form disappears and the next few seasons are trophy less. This eventually leads to the folding of the Saturday team.

With players turning out for other sides in the Cheltenham area a few former members decide to reform the Saturday side. At the start of 2005/2006 season under the guidance of Stuart Burgess new and old members came together to relight the fire of Tewkesbury Town F.C. This season was a huge success with Town winning every league game in Division 5 and also winning the league cup with a win over local rivals Bredon.

In 2006/7 Town win Division 4 to make it two promotions out of two. Ian Butler also guides the Sunday side to the final of the Evesham hospital minor cup.

At the end of the 2006/07 season Stuart Burgess steps down as manager leaving Leom Holley to take charge and continue upwards through the Cheltenham league. The success brought attention and through popularity a reserves side was re-created in 2006/07.

Town proceeded to make progress in its goals of forming a club where a person of any age, sex and ability can play by creating a tie with Bredon Colts, with the Colts changing their name to Tewkesbury Town Colts. Town also create a Veteran's team for 2010/11.
